Prior to his appointment as Deputy Controller and
Auditor-General, he occupied various senior positions throughout the New
Zealand Audit Office, mainly in the strategic oversight of major audits, the
maintenance of internal corporate support functions and the management of
performance audit functions. In 1977, he was appointed to the Audit Office in London where he was responsible for the audit of New Zealand's public sector interests throughout the northern hemisphere. Upon returning to New Zealand in 1981, he became the Director responsible for the audit of public accounts, professional development and audit policy, and co-ordination for the finance, transport and insurance sectors. Mr Cameron graduated with a BCom from Otago
University in 1971. During that year he was also admitted to the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of New Zealand. He was awarded an FCA in 1991. He has
served on a number of influential committees with the New Zealand Society of
Accountants, including Chairman of its Public Sector Accounting Committee,
member of the Auditing Standards Committee and, more recently, the Chief Judge
